Welcome back to Unit 7 of the Modern Order of Essenes course! If you are new to the course, it starts out here with Unit 1.
With Unit 7, we’re past the halfway mark of this course – at least past the halfway mark of this first part which is leading you up to the Apprentice attunement.
(Some time soon, btw, we’ll need to talk about whether you folks want this course to continue past Apprentice, up to the Healer and maybe even Master attunement!)
In Unit 7, we build on things we started in earlier units: There is a new step of the Blessing Walk, a new step of the Healing Breath Meditation and a new method for muscle testing. Enjoy! ๐
Coursework
- To Study – Essene Healing Breath, Phase 2
In this unit, we enter Phase 2 of the Healing Breath meditation. You should study the relevant background info before you start with the actual practice.
Online Version (The sections titled “Essene Healing Breath Meditation” and “Phase Two: Overview”)
PDF Version (Section “Phase Two: Overview” on page 19) - To Practice – Essene Healing Breath: Step 4
And on we go with Step 4, the first step in Phase 2 of the Healing Breath meditation…
Online Version (Section “Phase Two: Step Four – Watch your breathing”)
PDF Version (Section “Phase Two: Step Four – Watch your breathing” on page 19) - To Practice – Blessing Walk up to Step 5 – only after the first week
Your next task in this unit is to include Step 5 into your Blessing Walk – but only after about a week has passed, i.e. during halftime of this unit.
Online Version (only Steps 1 to 5)
PDF Version (only Steps 1 to 5, on pages 11 to 14) - To Practice – Empower your Healing Hands
Continue to empower your Healing Hands in the morning.
Online Version (only the sections for empowering your Healing Hands, i.e. up to and including “Empowering Your Healing Hands, Step Three” – the rest is part of later units)
PDF Version (pages 31, 32 and the top of page 33, up to and including “Empowering Your Healing Hands, Step Three” – the rest is part of later units) - To Study – “The Essene Healing Paradigm”
Study the material on the “Essene Healing Paradigm”. You’re not required to agree with everything in this text, but you should contemplate it seriously, and if possible come up with your own thoughts or opinion about this topic. (Hint: It also makes for excellent discursive meditation material!)
Online Version (only the section titled “The Essene Healing Paradigm” – note that “Essene Gnostic Beliefs” marks the beginning of another section which we’ll study in a later unit)
PDF Version (only the section titled “The Essene Healing Paradigm” on page 28) - To Practice – Muscle Testing: Rubbing Fingers Technique
Practice the second of the muscle testing techniques, the “Rubbing Fingers Technique”.
Online Version (only the section titled “Rubbing Fingers Technique”)
PDF Version (Section “Rubbing Fingers Technique” on page 47)
Reflection Question
While you do the work of Unit 7, take some time to reflect on the following question:
What is physical healing?
Meditation Topics
If you need fodder for your discursive meditations beyond what you have found in this unit’s texts, the following topics should give you something to work with:
- What are the rules of healing?
- How do the elements relate to healing?
- What other concepts could be used to explain healing?
- On which levels does healing take place?
- Does practice make perfect?
- What can you learn from watching your breath?
- What can you not learn from watching your breath?
- Does your attitude towards others influence yourself?
- Why can bad things happen to good people?
- Could you constantly be on a Blessing Walk?
- How have the MOE practices influenced or changed your life?
- Why do different healing techniques work for different people?
- Which healing techniques work well for you, and why?
- How does friction on higher levels translate into friction on lower levels?
And if you have enough ideas on your own and don’t need any from this list, that’s even better!
Commentary
Blessing Walk, Step 5
Step 5 of the Blessing Walk is different from the steps before. It’s not about blessing others anymore, but about observing yourself and your own life while you continue to bless others. (The latter is the important part – don’t forget to continue with steps 1 to 4 alongside any observation and introspection you perform!)
In a way, it’s an intermediary step towards integrating the Blessing Walk into the rest of your life.
When you do this step, you should pay attention to several things, if possible: Both to effects within yourself (e.g. you might be calmer, or more patient, or …) and to effects coming from externally, e.g. people treating you differently than before. Also, don’t just pay attention to how things might have changed during your actual Blessing Walks, although this is interesting to note as well. In addition, consider whether there have been any changes in the rest of your life, i.e. while you don’t perform Blessing Walks.
These changes might be subtle, but there are likely to be some noticeable ones even after just these few weeks of practice.
Feel free to share your findings with the others in the comments, if you are so inclined. Reports like these also a great resource for people who wonder whether they should start the MOE, which kind of effects it has, whether it is worth the work, etc. ๐
Muscle Testing
By now, you have probably gotten over the initial weirdness factor, if muscle testing had been new for you. ๐
Don’t worry if the Looped Fingers technique hasn’t given you reliable results yet (or any results at all). If this should have been the case, it might have been due to one of two common issues:
First, it might simply be that you need more time to get the hang of muscle testing in general. Like most other things in life, some people take to it like fish to water, some people need to practice a lot in order to get any results – and most people fall somewhere in between, along the spectrum! ๐
I.e. chances are good you might simply need more practice. Just follow along and practice the different techniques as they come up in the coursework until it “clicks”.
Secondly, it could also (or in addition…) be the case that the Looped Fingers technique simply isn’t your cuppa tea (it’s not mine either, and I use muscle testing regularly). In this case, the remedy is equally simple: Continue to practice along with the different techniques as they are presented in the unit coursework, until you find one (or more) which work well for you.
Generally, it’s worth trying out all of them – you never know what a technique does for you until you’ve tried it. This includes, potentially, coming back to try the Looped Fingers technique again later, especially if it didn’t work well for you during Unit 6. Maybe your overall muscle testing skills have improved considerably at a later point, and techniques which felt clumsy or pointless at first might produce excellent results for you in the long run.
Either way, muscle testing is like riding a bike: Most people need to practice a bit (or a bit more) until they can do it smoothly. But once you can, you won’t lose the skill again…
Further Resources
Again, the resources aren’t really new or surprising in this unit… ๐
I already pointed you towards John Gilbert’s audio files in Unit 1. As you proceed with Step 5 of the Blessing Walk, you can come back to the audio file with the name “Walk.mp3” if you are so inclined.
Walk.mp3 covers the Blessing Walk, but all steps of it. I.e. you can either listen through all of it right away to get a feeling for where we’ll be heading, or you can simply stop the audio for now when it moves on to the next step of the Blessing Walk, and then listen further as we proceed.
In the zip file of the audios, there is also a file called “breath.mp3”. This file covers Steps 2 to 6 of the Healing Breathing Meditation, narrated by John Gilbert.
About the first six minutes of it contain Step 2, 3 and 4, i.e. the steps you practice in this unit. You can of course listen through the whole file now, but stop practicing at around this time. There’s no point in overdoing it and knocking yourself out, and we’ll get to all the other steps later anyway…
The file AE-L1.mp3 contains instructions for empowering the Healing Hands (up to about minute 6:45).
Note that this audio explains certain (smallish) details slightly different than the written text, but both version should work fine.
My bigger issue with it comes further on in the audio file, especially in the remarks about ethics, and also some comments about “teaching clients”. I’ll have more to say about those parts in a later unit. For now, if you should decide to listen through the whole file and not just the first few minutes about empowering your Healing Hands, please keep in mind that some of what John Gilbert says here might be well-intended, but that doesn’t necessarily make it the right thing to do. ๐
Finally, there is, as usual, our own comment section from Unit 6 as a valuable resource.
Outlook
Unit 8 will go live on Sunday, May 25th, 2025.
Until then, I’m looking forward to your comments and your feedback, and I hope you enjoy the work of this unit!:-)

So the last 2 weeks have had some amazing results. I’m finally able to return to my land, my home, after years of exile. Walking through my old lands, seeing the old trees I once meditated under, I felt my heart overflow with blessings for the land itself and everything upon it. And now these blessings flow unceasingly whenever I am on my land. My blessing walks on my land have literally brought me to tears with gratitude and love for everything and everyone around me. I cant carry that same feeling outside of there, but the feeling of overwhelming gratitude, or being in communion with everything around me, the feeling that fills my heart with joy and chases away all lonliness – it certainly spills over into all aspects of my life to some extent. I am reminded that these trees are my friends, that I am loved by the earth itself, which is both living and nonliving, out of which I am made, to which I shall return.
I have a bit of a confession to make – I might have skipped ahead in the material and tried actually using my healing hands! I used them on myself – I was crippled with anxiety and fear going into a court battle over my land, praying I could convimce the other party to take… pretty much all my money in exchange for the home and land we shared, and to stop her evicting her own daughter. I used the healing hamds, sending the energy flowing out of my right hand through my solar plexus and out of my heart into my left hand. As the initial resistance faded away, I felt the energy flow push my fears out and give me the peace of mind I needed to get through the emotional rollercoaster of the other party changing their minds several times in the lead up to the sale.
So naturally, I then thought I was ready to expand my work even further. I was supposed to meet a good friend and go to renaissance faire with them. However, they were deathly sick on the day we were supposed to go. I offered to buy tickets for them to go the next day, and they agreed. However, they were dtill sick the next day. I tried to do distance healing, to send my healing energy through them from miles away. I encountered… intense resistance. I kept trying to oush through, and I felt the universe push back along with a sense that I wasnt supposed to be doing this. It later turned out thatthey were ill because they had been drinking alone a lot, so maybe this was a lesson they were supposed to learn. Interesting how that worked…
I’m quite interested in expanding my healing hands practice, but I feel I’ve been going too fast and will stick to the program from now on. I made it a point to ask my friemd before doing this on them, but even though they gave me permission and both of us wanted them to heal, it seems that just wasnt in the cards. Any advice for using the healing hands going forwards? I intend to stick to using them on myself, though… when my son became sick I was tempted to try. However, I recalled Mr. Greer’s warning about doing ritual magic on children. Would this be something that could mess up the development of their emergy centers? After my efforts with my friemd failed, I’m pretty cautious about using them!
That’s all I have – the reflexology divination hasnt been too helpful, though I do think I’m getting better results from the finger rubbing than I was from the looped fingers. Honestly I’ve been doing tarot as my daily divination so maybe this is just a bit if a change of pace and style for me.
I’m going to go read the newest post now – but I wanted to comment on my results from the last 2 weeks before moving on to the next lesson. These comments kind of get typed over the course of a week or so as I can add experiences and feedback as they happen. Anyway, after the last 2 weeks, I’m quite convinced that healing the world around me heals myself, and healing myself heals the world. Dreams really cam come true – you just have to be willing to put in the work.

Hi Paedrig,
Thanks a lot for sharing. That’s an amazing result indeed. Enjoy it! ๐
It’s also amazing that you’ve been able to return to your land and home. Very good news!
> I have a bit of a confession to make โ I might have skipped ahead in the material […]
lol! You just might, huh? ๐
Never mind. I think there was a good reason and cause you felt drawn to do so for yourself, and it sounds as if you did things intuitively right, and everything worked out fine.
As for healing your friend: Permission is important, of course, but as you experienced, it’s not everything. Sometimes people have a resistance against being healed, even though they might think they want it. If you encounter that, there is no point in pushing any further imo – even if you’d manage a temporary healing, things would fall right back to where they’ve been, or some other issue would pop up. (And sometimes it’s simply not meant to be, i.e. I’m not suggesting all unsuccessful healing attempts are due to the treated person not wanting to be healed!!)
Also, I have found that healing in a sense of urgency or excitement (“I have to do this for them now”), is usually not the wisest course of action, and neither is healing from a sense of your own importance or a place of ego (“It’ll be so cool when I do this for them, I’ll be admired, etc”). Not saying you did either, just stating for the records… ๐
> Iโm quite interested in expanding my healing hands practice
If I may make a suggestion: Why don’t you continue to experiment for and on yourself, since you’ve already started successfully, and see where that leads you? Just make sure to not neglect the other practices, as they are important, too. (and for anybody else reading this: I get it. Really. If you feel absolutely drawn to giving it a try on yourself, then by all means. If you can manage to wait, though, I think there is something to be gained by clearing some stuff first e.g. by foot reflexology, which we’ll start right in the next unit.)
If I were you, I would leave healing other people well alone at this stage. Attempting to push through things with your friend might also have resulted in you knocking yourself out, e.g. getting a cold or something, because you could have overtaxed yourself that way. Patience you must have my young Padawan, and all that. ๐
It can take a while to get the hang of muscle testing – or maybe it will just never be your thing. But it’s worth giving it a serious try, because a. it’s something which can be done very quickly, unobtrusively, and without any tools, and b. I find it has a different range of applications than standard divinatory methods like the tarot. Muscle testing is extremely helpful for anything related to your body or energy body, and also for stuff “stored” in your (physical or energy) body somehow. I know of one person who uses it to good effects to retrieve stored memories (e.g. of numbers she has encountered in certain contexts) if she can’t remember in the moment. Another, more typical, application would be to test if certain foodstuffs/treatments/… are good for your body at this point in time, etc. I find it to be less helpful with some of the other classic divinatory questions, but of course your mileage may very. I.e. it’s well worth practicing even if you are happy with the tarot!
> Anyway, after the last 2 weeks, Iโm quite convinced that healing the world around me heals myself, and healing myself heals the world. Dreams really cam come true โ you just have to be willing to put in the work.
Very well put! ๐
