This is the fourth part of my essay series “Inner Work with the Planets”. If you haven’t read the earlier parts yet, I suggest you start with part 1 to get the most out of this essay.
After a bright and shiny day with no clouds anywhere in sight, the Sun set just half an hour ago, and it’s promising to be a quiet and dark night with an equally clear sky.
The Moon is only a thin sliver tonight, and her subdued light gives you a wondeful view of all the less bright stars. In the West, Venus is outdoing herself in her gala performance as evening star, by far the brightest object in the sky.
Much higher up in the South, and a lot further away from the Sun than Venus, Jupiter is doing his level best to outshine her in his slightly different shade of white. These two are so bright, they are easy to spot.
But now it gets a bit trickier. Mars is still fairly easy, with his distinguished red shine.
Saturn is somewhat harder. He’s fairly distant, thus rather small to our eyes, and also by far not as shiny-bright as Venus or Jupiter. But still, you’ve been smart and looked up his current location beforehand, and… ah, there he is! A small, rather dullish brown point in the sky.
But Mercury… Have you ever seen Mercury? For real, I mean, not on some photograph?
Chances are good you haven’t – and the reason why leads us straight into the territory of the Hermetic planet Mercury, its vices and virtues…

Please double-check the time in your local timezone – Germany will already be on daylight savings at this date. If in doubt, the German time is what counts!
The attunement is open to everybody who has studied all the MOE material for the Healer grade, practices regularly, has received the Apprentice attunement, and fulfills the requirements. Note that you need to practice certain things daily for at least a week beforehand, so make sure to study the requirements well in advance! In a recent essay, I described the Modern Order of Essenes as a “system of spiritual healing”. Of course, this raises the question what I mean by “spiritual healing”… 😉
Thus in today’s essay, I’m going to explain my understanding of this term. My hope is that this will not just better help you understand some of my other essays (and, of course, the Modern Order of Essenes), but also that it will lead you to develop your own understanding of what spiritual healing could be for you.
(And just to be clear: What I’m laying out here is my personal understanding of this term at the current time. I don’t presume to proclaim an unfailing truth, nor do I expect you to see things the same way!)

With this post, we’re setting out into a new series of essays, a series which I hope will be both interesting and useful to you.
One of my plans for this year is to publish more regularly on The Hidden Things – preferably about topics which I enjoy, and which I hope you will enjoy just as much. This new series is the start into this endavour, and it covers some out-of-the-way ground, namely an obscure approach to “improving” yourself and your life.
Of course, I’m not just covering this approach here because it’s far outside the mainstream, but also because it’s ground which deserves to be covered, and which I think could be helpful to a lot of people.
