+++ Important update: I’ve put up a post to help us sort out potential attunement dates in January. Your input is required, deadline is Wednesday, December 17th! +++
Welcome back to the Modern Order of Essenes course.
Today marks the last unit of the Healer grade. Congratulations on making it this far! I hope you will consider continuing with the Master grade, too… ๐
Unit 20 contains some new content on the subconscious and how it ties in with spiritual healing, and also a couple of smaller new techniques.
In two weeks, there will be one last post related to the Healer grade, namely a post containing all the relevant information for the Healer attunement.
At some point in December, I will also ask you folks about dates for the Healer attunement. My plan is to conduct it (or them) in January, or February at the latest if we can’t find January dates.
I will post about the dates here, and also announce that post via the mailing list. If you want to be notified, sign up below, and make sure the option “Modern Order of Essenes” is checked (and yep, you are of course welcome to unsubscribe again afterwards!). Otherwise, please check back here regularly if you plan to participate in the Healer attunement. Thanks!
So… on we go! ๐
Coursework
- To Practice – Blessing Walk, Healing Hands, Foot Reflexology, Muscle Testing
Continue with the practices you’ve learned in the Candidate and Apprentice grades, ideally daily.
- To Study – The Law of Subconsciousness
Study “The Law of Subconsciousness” in the way explained in the Intro to the Healer grade, and/or use it as basis for your discursive meditation. As always, you are not supposed to blindly believe this text as gospel, but instead to study it thoroughly, contemplate it, and to come up with your own ideas and thoughts about it.
Online Version (only the very last section “The Law of Subconsciousness”)
PDF Version (section “The Law of Subconsciousness” including its subsections, i.e. everything on pages 13 and 14) - To Practice – Hand Reflexology: Continue as in last unit
Practice Hand Reflexology, ideally daily (see instructions and Commentary in the previous units).
Online Version
PDF Version (pages 20 to 23) - To Practice – Essene Healing Breath: Continue as in last unit
Continue to practice the Healing Breath meditation up to and including Step 9, as introduced in Unit 17 – unless you practice another form of meditation, e.g. discursive meditation which you could use to meditate on the theoretical study texts of the Healer grade.
Online Version
PDF Version (pages 15 to 22 in the Apprentice pdf) - To Study and Practice – Breath of Forgiveness
Study the instructions for the Breath of Forgiveness, and practice it at least once per week while you work on this unit.
(You can practice it more often, if you feel it does you good. And of course, you can continue to practice and use the Breath of Forgiveness at any point in the future, too – you don’t have to stop once you’re done with this unit! ๐ )
Note: To the best of my knowledge, the instructions for the Breath of Forgiveness are only included in the pdf version, and not in the online instructions on JMG’s Dreamwidth.
PDF Version (pages 17 and 18)
- To Study and Practice – Advanced Blessing Walk Technique
Study the instructions for the Advanced Blessing Walk Technique, and also read my comments about it below concerning your practice of it.
Note: To the best of my knowledge, the instructions for the Advanced Blessing Walk Technique are only included in the pdf version, and not in the online instructions on JMG’s Dreamwidth.
PDF Version (page 19)
Reflection Question
While you do the work of Unit 20, take some time to reflect on the following question:
What do you get out of the MOE Healer grade?
Meditation Topics
Note that for the Healer grade, there is a lot of meditation fodder in the study texts. I’m not going to pull these topics out of the study texts for you, though – that’s up to you to chew on for yourself!
But if you should need fodder for your discursive meditations beyond what you have found in this unit’s texts, the following topics should give you something to work with:
- What is your subconsciousness?
- What is your consciousness?
- How do these two interact?
- Are there any parts of you which are neither conscious nor subconscous?
- Can your sheer presence broadcast spiritual healing?
- If so, what are the advantages and disadvantages of this?
- What is forgiveness?
- When is forgiveness helpful, and when is it not helpful?
- What is the life of a Healer?
- What is the role of the Healer grade in the Modern Order of Essenes?
And if you have enough ideas on your own and don’t need any from this list, that’s even better!
Commentary
Breath of Forgivness
For the Breath of Forgivness, the same holds as for the Breath of Acceptance (which was introduced in Unit 18). For simplicity’s sake, I’ll simply repeat the same commentary here (using the word “Forgiveness” instead of “Acceptance”, of course! ๐ ). That way, you don’t have to look it up in the earlier unit, and I won’t have to write essentially the same things again, only in different words… ๐
So here we go:
The Breath of Forgivness is related to the Healing Breath meditation, but is not exactly the same. That is to say, you can (and should) give it a try even if you regularly practice some other form of meditation, and are thus giving the Healing Breath practice a pass.
Practicing the Breath of Forgivness, you might take to it like a fish to water, or it might take you a while to get the hang of it and see results. Both is fine, and no reason to worry either way. ๐
Your minimum task is to practice the Breath of Forgivness once per week while you work on this unit – or, in other words, if you spend two weeks on a unit, to give the Breath of Forgivness a try at least twice.
Of course, you are very welcome to practice more often if it does you good, and you are certainly very welcome to continue using the Breath of Forgivness after you finish Unit 19… ๐ I.e. the “twice per week while this unit” requirement is the minimum, for you to at least give it a try and gain some very first experience with it.
The Influence of the Subconsicousness on Healing
I have to admit I’m a bit torn about the content of this section.
The way it is stated is, methinks, less than helpful: As it is, the text suggests that you “only” need to change your subconscious programming, which is a breeze to achieve, and all your illnesses will be healed – and if that doesn’t work, you simply haven’t tried hard enough, or haven’t fully engaged with the process.
I find this rather difficult and would never put these statements in this form out myself, as I think they shift an immense blame and burden onto people with serioues illnesses or long-term issues.
(“Your illness ain’t healing? Well, it’s your own fault because of your subconscious programming. Just change that, it’s easy, and you’ll be fully healed!”)
That’s not a Golden Rule in all cases, though – and to me, this belief only adds more emotional (and other) issues on the people who are seriously ill and have actually tried to change this with their own inner work, to no avail – which isn’t exactly helpful, especially if you accept the premises of this section!
Thus I’d caution you to take this part of the text with a grain or two of salt.
On the other hand, at least in my experience, illness does indeed usually have non-physical components as well, and is to some extent influenced by them. Accordingly, it pays to put some attention to these other, non-physical levels as well – if nothing else then to deal with your own emotions, thoughts, etc if you are experiencing some serious illness, and thus to ease your burden.
You can read my own take on these connections in my essay The House of Healing.
As usual here in the MOE course, you’re not required to agree with the material, and you’re certainly not required to agree with my take on things either!
But when you study this unit’s text, I’d like you to be aware of these potential issues. In particular, I would not want you to take the content of this section, and excitedly quote it e.g. to a friend who has a serious illness, and tell them they “just” need to adjust their subconscious programming in order to be fully well again… Think twice before you do that – instead of being helpful, you might be unnecessarily cruel.
Advanced Blessing Walk Technique
So this is a bit weird… ๐
To the best of my knowledge, this part of the text was not included in the material JMG posted on his Dreamwidth back when he first published the Modern Order of Essenes – or if it was, I missed it back then and cannot find it now either.
What this means is that this is a section (one of several) upon which I only stumbled when preparing this course. Or, in other words, I’ve never consciously practiced this myself… ๐
As a consequence, I’ve also never paid attention to any healing crystals in my feet. Which, in return, means I can’t even tell you if anything in my feet has changed as part of my MOE work. If it has, I haven’t noticed, alas.
Going just by the text, I’m not sure if JMG omitted it on purpose or by accident. To me, it seems to be a later addition to the material (by John Gilbert, maybe?), although I might be mistaken about this.
It also seems to tie in with some advanced material in the Master grade, suggesting that at the very least, it has been shifted around a bit over time (as evidenced also e.g. by the statement “It makes no sense to practice the Blessing Walk until your feet spontaneously become activated.”).
Since the (supposedly) related Master material is stuff I have some issues with (or rather, I have issues with the way it is presented in the course), I’m inclined to not put too much weight on this Advanced Blessing Walk Technique at this stage.
As such, my suggestion would be for you to read and understand this section, and then to practice it as instructed at least twice while you work on the material of this unit.
If it doesn’t do anything for you, put it aside for now (you can get back to it later).
If it’s right up your alley, by all means continue with this practice.
And if you can’t feel anything in your feet at all in the first place, you can still give it a try a couple of times, or file it away for later reference – that’s up to you.
Oh, and please report back to me in the comment section below! ๐
Wrapping Up the Healer Grade
The Healer grade started out innocently enough, compared to the earlier material, but we’ve covered a lot of ground.
To me, the most impactful parts of this grade aren’t any of its techniques, but the study material. If you had done nothing else but studied it (and applied it in your life!), you’d have gotten a lot out of the Healer material.
(I do hope you’ve also done the rest of the work, of course!)
So where do we go from here?
First, you need to do the coursework of this unit, of course.
Assuming this will take you two weeks, we’d then be in early December – leaving you at least a month, maybe more, before the Healer attunement (and before the Master grade starts, assuming you’re going to continue).
What could you do during these weeks, MOE-wise?
I know that December is a busy time of the year for most people, thus you might simply be grateful for the breather. ๐
You might also be lagging behind a bit with the material. While I’ve tried to carve things up into bite-sized chunks, there is a lot of material in the course, and of course life doesn’t stop for you to become a Modern Order of Essenes Healer!
Thus if you are a bit behind, no worries – and you can use these weeks to play catchup.
There might also be certain elements of the course which you might want to revisit, to try again, to practice a bit more intensely, etc. All of this would be possible between now and the start of the Master grade.
And finally, it might be worth to re-read (and potentially re-study, re-contemplate, re-meditate-upon) the study texts of the Healer grade.
There is a lot to be gained from them, and they are worth studying more than once.
As noted at the beginning of this unit, in December we will settle on attunement dates, and I will also publish preparatory information for the Healer attunement.
This course will then continue with the Master grade in January (potentially on Sunday January 11th or 18th, 2026, but my posting schedule for January isn’t quite settled yet).
I hope to see you in the Master grade! ๐
Further Resources
Always worth a read are the comment sections to JMG’s posts, accessible via the “Online Version” links in the Coursework section.
Our own prior comment sections are also worth a read, especially as comments continue to trickle in over time. Here’s the link to the comment section of Unit 19.
(And in case you shouldn’t have noticed yet, all my posts have at least one “category” assigned to them, and most also have “topics” assigned. Categories and topics are listed below the actual post text, i.e. you’ll see them if you scroll just a wee bit further down from here. Clicking on the topic “MOE Course” will get you straight to a list of all course posts.)
Outlook
In two weeks (on Sunday December 7th, 2025) we will continue this Modern Order of Essenes course with a post containing information to help you prepare for the upcoming Healer attunements.
Until then, I’m looking forward to your comments and your feedback, and I hope you enjoy the work of this unit. ๐

Hello Regine! I would like to start by saying the attunement went very well. At first, it seemed like this second attunement was underwhelming compared to the first – no sense of being filled with energy, of dramatic trasformations, of any new crystals opening up, anything like that. But my life has been filled with a few very important energies since that day.
I have been filled with a sense of calm, a feeling like I can rest. I’ve been doing daily practices almost religiously since we started this journey almost a year ago. I don’t intend to fall off, but there’s a sense like… I can relax a bit about it. Take days off if I just need to get other things done. I have a sense of accomplishment – almost a year a go, I chose to go on this journey with you, and I’ve actually committed to it, stuck to it, and completed it. Finally, it feels as though my heart can finally flow with love to myself and the world around me, like a dam has been opened.
I truly believe the breath of acceptance and forgiveness are a key part of opening up my heart. I didn’t realize how much bitterness, resentment, and shame I had buried inside me. Forgiving others and myself has really helped me on my healing journey, and helped me finally open my heart up. I would ask why we haven’t received this powerful technique until now, but I think I understand – it may have taken this much work to get to the point I can start digging this deep inside myself. Still, I cannot fathom why JMG didn’t transcribe these techniques onto his dreamwidth journal… I simply cannot emphasize how powerful forgiveness is. Forgiving others who have put you through trauma, forgiving yourself for what you did to them, forgiving the entire situation… It releases burdens of pain, fear, and shame, and thus opens up one’s soul to a light of love and hope. I think a certain teacher, mage, and healer from 2000 years ago might have been on to something with all his talk of forgiveness!
I can tell I have a lot of work to do within myself. I can tell that this inner healing journey will take some time. I’m going to give myself all the time I need to do this right. While I intend to keep reading the next set of MoE lessons, I’m going to do it at my own pace – I’m not going to try and keep up at all. You’ll see me randomly comment on some lesson you posted months ago from time to time as I manage to get to it. Plus, I might branch out and read some of your other stuff and comment as I read that. But yeah, I’m not going to try and keep running after the so called deadline.
Not that the structure of the lessons with a regular schedule isn’t a great idea – God knows I wouldn’t have kept moving forward with the lessons if you hadn’t structured the course like that. I just feel that, after keeping pace (barely) for a year, I’m ready to step off and just focus on keeping up with the practice regularly and working on doing some self healing.
I will say, I really found John Gilbert’s attitude about changing one’s subconscious to be… a tad disrespectful, but more than that a bit delusional. Our subconscious inner worlds are the hardest things in the world to change. Compared to that, wrestling with the physical world is easy. It’s also the most important work that one can do, but in no way is it simple or easy. The techniques we’ve learned in the last year do provide a toolkit that makes doing such work a good deal easier – that is to say, it goes from incredibly hard to merely difficult. I suppose I can forgive Mr. Gilbert’s cavalier words on on changing one’s consciousness, if only because he does provide some very helpful tools for making such changes. I think he may have been overselling his methods a bit, though.
I haven’t had any crystals open on my feet. Then again, I still can’t just visualize my healing hands on. It’s an odd thing. I’m very attached to ritual. It’s a blessing and a curse. On the one hand, I enjoy doing daily rituals, and am very enthusiastic about spending half an hour, even an hour a day if I can doing ritual. On the other hand, I can’t seem to activate my healing hands without doing the tracing on my hands, and holding them at right angles for awhile. It’s not something I can do very well just in the moment. I’m sure that’s something I need to work on, but I have a lot of other work to do accepting and forgiving a lot of people and situations from my past, and accepting and forgiving myself for things I did in my past, before I think I need to focus on that particular aspect of myself. I do, however, like the image of every step I take radiating blue light.
Thank you so much, Regine, for guiding me on this journey. It has truly been a path of healing, growth, self-reflection, and self-actualization. I feel so much more… aware of my body, my energy, my feelings, how they all actually work and interact, and how I can begin to make all of the forms and flows of life work better and with less pain. You’ve done the world a great service, and I honored to have become a healer under your guidance.
Thank you. Be well, be healthy, be balanced, be blessed. I know I am, thanks to you, to John Michael Greer, John Gilbert, and I’m sure a whole chain of teachers stretching back God knows how far. I’m grateful to you all.

Hi Paedrig,
I’m very glad to hear that! It seems you’ve reached what is an important milestone for you – kudos to you for sticking with things until you got there! ๐
The attunements can indeed feel very different in energy, both in intensity and in quality, but this doesn’t necessarily mean one is less powerful than the other. ๐
About the Breath of Acceptance and Forgiveness, you are right: Sometimes we need to reach a certain place in order to truly value something which we couldn’t have valued before, or which wouldn’t have had the effects it could have. And I haven’t asked JMG, but he’s only human, and this was a lot of material to publish (and I’m not sure which state of order it was in) – so maybe some stuff simply fell through the cracks.
Yes, please, take all the time you need. You’re welcome to tackle the next lessons (or even only to just read them) whenever you feel ready. You have all the time in the world for this journey, and there is no rush and no prices for finishing first! And if you should feel inclined to read some of my other stuff, you’re very welcome, of course, and I always appreciate comments. ๐
(Not sure if this is of interest to you, but I published a long essay series on Inner Work with the Hermetic Planets last year, which is as good a starting point as any. Even if you’re not interested in the Hermetic planets in a spiritual sense, there are a ton of suggestions and ideas in there for how to change oneself, and how to look at oneself and at life from other points of view.)
For what it’s worth, I think most people don’t function like clockwork. You’ve pushed the pendulum far to one side this past year, in doing all the work and sticking to the schedule. So maybe it’s time now to let it swing back to the other side for a bit, in order to gain momentum for the next stage of disciplined work?
I have my issues with some of the texts as well, as I think I mentioned several times, whether they are from John Gilbert or from one of his predecessors. But there truly is no one size fits all, and what might be delusional for you, or otherwise not a good fit for me, might be exactly what somebody else needs at this stage. If I made major changes to the texts, they would appeal more to some people – and less to others. (That’s not to say I might not do so at some stage, but now isn’t the right time for this.)
Don’t sweat it about the crystals in the feet and about visualizing your healing hands on. These things will come in due time, or they won’t – not everything is appropriate for everybody, after all. Thus I’d say don’t push it, just try activating them without the tracing from time to time and see what happens.
Finally, you’re very welcome – but it’s you who has done the work! ๐ I’m glad this course has been so fruitful for you, though. ๐
All the best to you on your journey, and I’m looking forward to any future comments of yours!
