Can you believe we’ve reached the third unit of the Healer grade already?
This unit doesn’t introduce a big, exciting new practice. Instead, we focus on continued practice, and on subtle introspection. Sounds boring? It isn’t! ๐
So let’s dive in right away…
Coursework
- To Practice – Blessing Walk, Healing Hands, Foot Reflexology, Muscle Testing
Continue with the practices you’ve learned in the Candidate and Apprentice grades, ideally daily.
- To Study – “Concerning Emotions”
Study the text “Concerning Emotions” in the way explained in the Intro to the Healer grade, and/or use it as basis for your discursive meditation. As always, you are not supposed to blindly believe this text as gospel, but instead to study it thoroughly, contemplate it, and to come up with your own ideas and thoughts about it.
Online Version (only the section “Concerning Emotions”, which includes three subpoints. Note that “THE LAW OF CREATION” marks the beginning of the next section, which will be covered in a later unit.)
PDF Version (The lower half of page 6, and topmost part of page 7; “THE LAW OF CREATION” marks the beginning of the next section, which will be covered in a later unit.) - To Practice – Hand Reflexology: Continue as in last unit
Practice Hand Reflexology, ideally daily (see instructions and Commentary in Unit 14).
Online Version (Only the topmost section “Essene Hand Reflexology”. Everything from “HEAD ZONE โ The Fingers” downwards is part of a later unit.)
PDF Version (Page 20, only the upper half “Essene Hand Reflexology”. Everything from “HEAD ZONE โ The Fingers” downwards is part of a later unit.) - To Practice – Essene Healing Breath: Step 8, “Extending your window of opportunity”
Read Step 8 of the Healing Breath meditation, and start practicing it to the extent possible (see Commentary) – unless you practice another form of meditation, e.g. discursive meditation which you could use to meditate on the theoretical study texts of the Healer grade.
Online Version (Section “Stage Three: Step Eight โ Extending your window of opportunity”)
PDF Version (Section “Stage Three: Step Eight โ Extending your window of opportunity” on page 21; note that Phase 3 of the Healing Breath is covered in the Apprentice pdf and not in the Healer pdf!)
Reflection Question
While you do the work of Unit 15, take some time to reflect on the following question:
How do emotions and healing interact?
Meditation Topics
Note that for the Healer grade, there is a lot of meditation fodder in the study texts. I’m not going to pull these topics out of the study texts for you, though – that’s up to you to chew on for yourself!
But if you should need fodder for your discursive meditations beyond what you have found in this unit’s texts, the following topics should give you something to work with:
- How can moments in time extend?
- What is bliss?
- Why is bliss intoxicating?
- Which role(s) do your emotions play?
- Which role(s) do you play for your emotions?
- What happens when you draw your attention to your emotions?
- Can you be without emotion?
- How are emotions and decisions interlinked?
- What happens when you draw your attention to your hands?
- What are the effects of continued practice?
And if you have enough ideas on your own and don’t need any from this list, that’s even better!
Commentary
The work of Unit 15
I have to admit this Unit 15 looks a bit boooring – on first glance, that is. It seems that there isn’t anything new, just practicing the same stuff yet again for another two weeks.. (yawn)
While I get these sentiments, I’d ask you to consider two things:
First, once you’ve mastered the MOE material (to the extent that we can ever become “masters” at all), your work in the MOE will essentially be just as boring, and just as “always the same”.
For however long you practice the Modern Order of Essenes, you will activate your Healing Hands each day, and do all the other stuff you’re doing in this unit.
It is through such continued repetition that true mastery is achieved, though (again, to the extent that it can be achieved at all!).
It’s like learning a language: The more you practice, the more fluent you will become. Continue to practice the MOE each day, no matter how boring it might seem on some days, and over time, you will become ever more fluent:
Some stuff will start to happen which didn’t happen before. Certain things will accumulate, or become more powerful. And, what might be the most important point, these practices will work on you, and through continued practice, you will slowly but surely change yourself and thus the world around you.
I.e. what might seem boring in this unit is the basis for the best you’ll get out of your MOE practice over time! ๐
Secondly, before you should write this unit off as not that exciting, I’d encourage you to take a really deep dive into the study text. Anybody who seriously engages with these few short paragraphs has their work cut out for them…
Concerning Emotions
Just like last unit’s, the study text for this unit is very short, but packs a punch. I’m fairly sure that everybody who seriously engages with “Concerning Emotions” will find something for them to chew on – and I’ll leave it to you to discover what this is for you on your own…
For myself, I have to admit that I have some issues with this section. ๐ I’m not going to spell them out, as I want you to come to your own understanding of the study text. However, I wanted to stress this here just to be clear that you do not have to agree with all the texts in order to practice the MOE, or to move ahead with it!
Instead, it’s perfectly fine if you come to your own understanding, and to your own concepts and conclusions. In fact, it’s not only perfectly fine – it’s what should ideally happen when you practice the Modern Order of Essenes and actually put in the work.
Thus don’t be afraid to poke and prod at these texts from all angles – and not just from the ones which are comfortable to you! ๐
Finally, just like last time, this text is marked as “To Study” in the Coursework section. But it isn’t just study material, but also material which should be put into action in your own life.
How to do this depends on your own life, of course, and also on your own understanding of this text and your own contemplations about it. But it will become truly powerful only once you start putting its lessons into action…
Hand Reflexology
Not much to be said here. By now, you might have discovered some differences and some similarities between Hand and Foot Reflexology. If you haven’t yet, don’t sweat it, this will develop over time.
And either way, simply continue with the practice in an intuitive way for now, as spelled out in the last unit. In the next Unit 16, we’ll add a more intellectual approach to the mix. For now, just continue to focus on your perceptions and experiences.
Healing Breath Meditation
Unit 15 introduces the next step of the Healing Breath meditation, Step 8. This “step” is somewhat hard to “work” on, as it will unfold naturally over time. And while it’s helpful to be aware of this step and to let it happen when it happens, ideally, you’d simply let things unfold on their own.
I.e. if you’re already there, and your window of opportunity has been extending, then just continue doing what you’ve done, and don’t focus too much on it, and in particular don’t fall into any ego traps (like how cool you are for having been there early, etc). ๐
If you aren’t there yet, and you feel that your window of opportunity isn’t extending yet, then just continue doing what you’ve done, and don’t focus too much on it, and in particular don’t fall into any ego traps (like how useless you are and how you’ll never get there, etc). ๐
Step 8 will (and should) be a natural unfolding of your practice, and not some half-rotten thing for your ego to dig his or her claws into!
Further Resources
There are by far not as many resources (in the form of video or audio files) available for the Healer material as there were for the Candidate and Apprentice material, thus this section will be noticeably shorter for the units of the Healer grade.
For this unit, there is one audio file of John Gilbert specifically for Phase 3 of the Healing Breath meditation:
In the zip file which contains John Gilbert’s audio files, there is a file called meditation.mp3. It covers Phase 3 of the Healing Breath.
For Step 8, only the first about 4:25 minutes are relevant. The rest of the file covers the next and final step, and we’ll get back to it later. (Depending on how your practice goes, you might want to combine it with the earlier file breath.mp3 which covers Phases 1 and 2.)
Always worth a read are the comment sections to JMG’s posts, accessible via the “Online Version” links in the Coursework section.
Our own prior comment sections are also worth a read, especially as comments continue to trickle in over time. Here’s the link to the comment section of Unit 14.
(In case you shouldn’t have noticed yet, all my posts have at least one “category” assigned to them, and most also have “topics” assigned. Categories and topics are listed below the actual post text, i.e. you’ll see them if you scroll just a wee bit further down from here. Clicking on the topic “MOE Course” will get you straight to a list of all course posts.)
Outlook
In two weeks (on Sunday September 28th, 2025) we will continue this Modern Order of Essenes course with Unit 16 in the Healer grade.
Until then, I’m looking forward to your comments and your feedback, and I hope you enjoy the work of this unit. ๐
