Welcome back to the Healer grade of this Modern Order of Essenes course!
This unit introduces the One Big New Thing in the Healer grade – at least from a practical standpoint… (As I explained in the Intro to the Healer grade, this grade predominantly contains a lot of new material in the abstract realms, which also deserves your focus and attention!)
But in the upcoming two weeks, you’ll also start out adding Hand Reflexology to your arsenal.
Excited? Go get your beverage of choice, shake out your hands, and hop right into this unit with me…
Coursework
- To Practice – Blessing Walk, Healing Hands, Foot Reflexology, Muscle Testing
Continue with the practices you’ve learned in the Candidate and Apprentice grades, ideally daily.
- To Study – “Concerning Decisions”
Study the text “Concerning Decisions” in the way explained in the Intro to the Healer grade, and/or use it as basis for your discursive meditation. As always, you are not supposed to blindly believe this text as gospel, but instead to study it thoroughly, contemplate it, and to come up with your own ideas and thoughts about it.
Online Version (only the section “Concerning Decisions”. Note that “Concerning Emotions” marks the beginning of the next section, which will be covered in a later unit.)
PDF Version (The upper half of page 6; “Concerning Emotions” marks the beginning of the next section, which will be covered in a later unit.) - To Practice – Hand Reflexology, Step 1
Practice Hand Reflexology, ideally daily (see my notes in the Commentary about your practice at this stage).
Online Version (Only the topmost section “Essene Hand Reflexology”. Everything from “HEAD ZONE โ The Fingers” downwards is part of a later unit.)
PDF Version (Page 20, only the upper half “Essene Hand Reflexology”. Everything from “HEAD ZONE โ The Fingers” downwards is part of a later unit.) - To Practice – Essene Healing Breath: Continue as in last unit
Continue to practice Step 7 of the Healing Breath meditation as introduced in Unit 13 (unless you practice another form of meditation, e.g. discursive meditation which you could use to meditate on the theoretical study texts of the Healer grade).
Online Version (Section “Stage Three: Step Seven โ Establish your window of opportunity”)
PDF Version (Section “Stage Three: Step Seven โ Establish your window of opportunity” on page 21; note that Phase 3 of the Healing Breath is covered in the Apprentice pdf and not in the Healer pdf!)
Reflection Question
While you do the work of Unit 14, take some time to reflect on the following question:
What influence do you have on healing?
Meditation Topics
Note that for the Healer grade, there is a lot of meditation fodder in the study texts. I’m not going to pull these topics out of the study texts for you, though – that’s up to you to chew on for yourself!
But if you should need fodder for your discursive meditations beyond what you have found in this unit’s texts, the following topics should give you something to work with:
- Which role(s) do your hands play?
- How are your emotions linked to your body?
- How is your body linked to your emotions?
- What do your hands signify?
- What do different parts of your hands signify?
- How are your hands different from your feet?
- What distinguishes basic techniques from advanced techniques?
- What does pain in your body signify?
- What does tenderness in your body signify?
- How do your decisions affect yourself?
- How do your decisions affect your life?
- How can you decide about your emotions – and how not?
And if you have enough ideas on your own and don’t need any from this list, that’s even better!
Commentary
Concerning Decisions
The study text for this unit is very short, but packs a punch. I’m fairly sure that everybody who seriously engages with “Concerning Decisions” will find something for them to chew on – and I’ll leave it to you to discover what this is for you on your own…
Two quick notes, though:
First, the text somewhat tenaciously talks about your emotions towards other people, and your decisions concerning them. I’d just like to mention that you also have emotions towards yourself, and might want to consider that they, too, could be subject to your decisions, as outlined in the text. Just sayin’… ๐
And secondly, in the Coursework section, I have marked this text as “To Study”. But in reality, it should not just be studied (although that, too), but also contemplated, reflected upon – and most of all, it should be acted upon!
Thus this section isn’t just study material, but also practice material (as so many of the “theoretical” texts of the MOE, and in particular of this grade, are!).
Hand Reflexology – What to Practice in this Unit
I have very deliberately only included the first short part of the Hand Reflexology instructions into this unit. And if you can curtail your curiosity (cough, cough), I strongly suggest you really stop reading right at the sub-heading “HEAD ZONE โ The Fingers”, and don’t go any further for now.
(Don’t worry, the rest will pop up in a later unit! ๐ )
These first, rather general instructions for Hand Reflexology which we’ll use in this chapter are perfectly fine and workable. The later instructions will give you a lot of detail on what to locate where, etc – but you don’t need this at all to get started.
In fact, I’d much rather you started without all this “background knowledge”, and instead listened to your own perceptions at this stage.
I.e. when you do the Hand Reflexology, try to perceive not just your body, but also your emotions, or anything else which might come up. If you can tie things to specific parts of your hands, that’s fine. If not, that’s fine, too.
(If you don’t perceive anything at all, maybe apart from the odd pain or tenderness, that’s also fine – just keep on massaging and enjoy the relaxation!)
Thus, in the current unit, we’ll approach the Hand Reflexology practice in a very intuitive and seemingly unstructured way, to give you room to explore things on your own, instead of being limited by other people’s perceptions right from the start:
At this stage, simply massage your hands, and perceive what happens.
You will gain a lot more from your own experiences than from some pre-written instructions of how things should be… ๐
One more thing: The text mentions the “Seven Emotional Complexes”. They will be part of a later unit, and you can safely ignore this sentence for now.
Hand Reflexology vs. Foot Reflexology
So far, Foot Reflexology has been part of your daily routine. If you have the capacity to continue with it alongside the Hand Reflexology, I’d suggest doing so, although ideally not right after each other.
When you do the Foot Reflexology, try to also listen inwards, to your body, emotions, etc, just as you do for the Hand Reflexology. Take notes if you want. Over time, you might notice certain differences and similarities between them.
If practicing both should be getting a bit much for you, leave the Foot Reflexology aside for now, and focus on your hands. You might consider giving yourself a Foot Reflexology every once in a while, though, as circumstances permit, simply to compare them (see previous paragraphs).
But if you have to choose, right now it’s more important to learn this new technique. You can still go back to Foot Reflexology later and only use Hand Reflexology on an as-needed basis, if you find this works better for you. But in order to decide about this, you’ll need to know and have experienced both!
Hand Reflexology – When and Where
As far as daily practices go, Hand Reflexology is pretty easy to incorporate into most people’s day.
If you look around with a keen eye, a lot of people touch or rub parts of their bodies (e.g. their face, shoulders, hands, …) while looking absentmindedly ahead, e.g. in public transport, in waiting rooms or in boring meetings. You could simply (and very inconspiciously) be doing the same – although only in situations where you can focus reasonably well on your perceptions, of course!
Since hands can be pressed and rubbed under the table, huddled up in winter coats, beneath backpacks kept on your lap, etc, nobody even needs to notice what you are doing.
Of course, if this works better for you, you could also do your daily reflexology treatment right in the morning, or in the evening/at night, e.g. before going to bed. On the other hand, some of you might have come to enjoy your daily foot rub at night, and if you want to continue with this, it would make sense to practice your Hand Reflexology at some other time of the day.
Either way, this practice is rather flexible, although you will need a few minutes where you can concentrate on yourself and on the effects of your reflexology treatment.
Further Resources
There are by far not as many resources (in the form of video or audio files) available for the Healer material as there were for the Candidate and Apprentice material, thus this section will be noticeably shorter in the upcoming units.
Always worth a read are the comment sections to JMG’s posts, accessible via the “Online Version” links in the Coursework section.
Our own prior comment sections are also worth a read, especially as comments continue to trickle in over time. Here’s the link to the comment section of Unit 13.
(In case you shouldn’t have noticed yet, all my posts have at least one “category” assigned to them, and most also have “topics” assigned. Categories and topics are listed below the actual post text, i.e. you’ll see them if you scroll just a wee bit further down from here. Clicking on the topic “MOE Course” will get you straight to a list of all course posts.)
Outlook
In two weeks (on Sunday September 14th, 2025) we will continue this Modern Order of Essenes course with Unit 15 in the Healer grade.
Until then, I’m looking forward to your comments and your feedback, and I hope you enjoy the work of this unit. ๐

Glad I can finally check in. I haven’t left a comment or moved to the next lesson because man oh man, has my life become full. All that advice you gave, about giving myself grace, letting myself have a break now and again, and not burning myself out? I’ve had an excellent opportunity to put it into practice!
I work about 50 hour work weeks and have 2 toddlers, though I am blessed enough to have my mom watch them most of the week while I work. Their mother is… barely in the picture every other weekend. Some days I’m lucky to be able to just get a sphere of protection and a quick prayer in bed before life comes at me fast and hard. On those days I try and focus on the blessing walk – if I can’t put in the ritual work, I can at least work on that while I have no time for anything else! Other days, if my mom has my boys and I have time before work, or on the weekends I don’t have the boys, I can do the full practice. The hardest part has been just making myself do this each and every day I possibly can. The temptation to just blow it all off is immense. I’m tired, I deserve a break, skipping one day wkn’t hurt… The thing is, on days I don’t take the time to mediate, to activate my healing hands, to pray, to do the foot and hand reflexology – I actually feel worse and get less done! So I know this practice is an excellent use of my limited time – I’ve scientifically tried both sticking to the practice and falling off the bandwagin, after all! In fact, its honestly the only time where I so and take any kind of breath, and I assure you, I need it. The moments of opportunity during the healing breath meditation remind me I need those moments in my life – that part of the process of actively living life involves those moments of silence and repose.
The foot and hand reflexology continue to be lifesavers. Pain is my body’s way of telling me where I need to take things easy and heal, and tenderness is a sign of healing. I push myself hard but my back and other parts are starting to show wear and tear – glad I’m taking the time to heal myself before I get too old! Got to get ahead of saturn, time and age before he catches up with me, after all…
That’s all I have to say for now. I’ll try to play catch up to the best of my ability. Thanks so much for all your hard work!

Hi Paedrig,
Thanks a lot for checking back in! It sounds if you really have the chance to put this advice to good use… ๐
Seriously, though, I’ve got kids. And although mine are older now, I remember very well the time when they were toddlers. Having two toddlers to take care of is a lot of work and takes a lot of energy, and doing it more or less alone (bless your mom!), and on top of a more than full-time job, is a veritable challenge.
Yes, you do deserve a break. But as you have noticed yourself, some of these practices are a break! ๐ I get the temptation, though. Been there, got the shirts myself.
Just do the best you can, and don’t overtax yourself. If you can’t “move ahead” in the material during this challenging time, you’re still going to make progress with the MOE. These practices do work, and they do lead to changes – and the energies will continue their work on you as long as you practice.
I.e. it’s a mistake to think that “not moving ahead” equals “not getting any further”, at least as far as the MOE is concerned. If all you can do for a few years is to activate your Healing Hands, do the reflexology and meditation whenever possible, and pop in Blessing Walks (or Blessing Sits, or Blessing Drives, or …) at least somewhat regularly (plus as you said also some prayer and some SOPs on top) – and then look back in a few years, you’ll notice just how far you will have come.
The rest of the MOE practices and the study material will wait for whenever you have time, if you can’t get to them now. What you mentioned is a very solid regular practice, and you should give yourself credit for doing it!
Or, in other words, maybe the middle ground between “pushing ahead no matter what, even if you’re totally exhausted” and “dropping things” is “continue with what you’re doing now, in the seemingly imperfect way you’re doing it, and only tackle new MOE material when you have the energy for it – no set rules on how quickly you have to progress!”.
I’m not sure if this helps, though – it certainly won’t magically give you more time to sleep, alas. ๐
